Recently, Holly Bass and Simone Jacobson went to check out the 360-degree projection of sound and video called "SONG 1" at the Hirshhorn and had a magical time. They devised a plan to create a dance to celebrate that magic with a public interactive dance called "DANCE 1." Tonight, they are inviting dancers and movers of all sorts - no prior dance experience necessary - to join them for an improv dance meetup, with loosely structured moments of collective conscience.
Simone Jacobson and Holly Bass present: DANCE 1
For forty-five minutes on just one night only, a group of dancers will swarm the area surrounding Doug Aitken's "SONG 1" (see video) at The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (on view through Sunday, May 20th), creating a whisper of silent gestures. Participants will engage in physical contact with one another while responding immediately, viscerally to Aitken's 360-degree cinematic and audio work, mimmicing the "liquid architecture" of "SONG 1" with a "liquid quilt" of bodies. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and be able to attend a 7:30pm rehearsal in the courtyard of the African Art Museum at 950 Independence Avenue SW, 2 blocks down from the Hirshhorn. The forecast is for clear weather (70's during the day, but could drop to 50's at night), so dress appropriately.
